The Two O'Clock Seat Is the Only Reliable One Left

Iain Griffiths' East Village cocktail bar won Best U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2026 Spirited Awards and the door tightened accordingly. The Snaquiri and the Spice Bag are still the point; the happy-hour window is now the play.

The wood-paneled bar hugs the middle of the room, the '70s soul is loud enough to talk over but not around, and the couple two stools down are eating chicken tenders out of a curry sauce with the concentration of people who ordered wisely. A miniature daiquiri lands in a glass the size of a shot. This is what the fuss is about, and the fuss is real.

Iain Griffiths opened Bar Snack on Second Avenue in 2024. In 2026 it won Best U.S. Cocktail Bar at the Spirited Awards, and the door — walk-in only, small room, East Village — went from casual to contested. It has been called the best bar in New York this year. What's changed is who wants in.

A cocktail bar where the chicken tenders are ordered as often as the daiquiris and neither one is doing the other a favor.

Editorial Deep

The Pour
DRINKS
9.1

Order the Snaquiri first. It's the drink that named the bar — a snack-sized daiquiri, seasonal, currently running with clementines and spice — and it functions as both a mission statement and a calibration test. If you like it, the rest of the menu is going to work. If you don't, you are in the wrong bar. The house daiquiri also comes in a full glass and a pitcher, which is the correct number of formats for one drink.

The Room
ATMOSPHERE
8.4

The bar itself is the room. A wood-paneled counter runs down the middle and everything else arranges itself around it — a few tables, some standing space, warm light low enough that the wood does the work. The bathrooms are the sort of decision that makes sense once you're in one and lands as a small piece of theatre in a room that otherwise plays it straight.

The Crowd
VIBE
8.3

The crowd used to be neighborhood — East Village drinkers with the food-media diet, industry people on a night off, the sort of room where nobody was performing. Since the Spirited win in 2026 the mix has widened. Weekends now pull the cocktail-tourism crowd, which means longer waits and a room that occasionally tips from house-party into queue-management. Weeknights, especially early, still read the way the bar was designed to read: locals, regulars, people who know to order the Spice Bag without asking what it is. Come on a Tuesday at seven and the crowd is the product. Come on a Saturday at eleven and the crowd is the tax.

The Tab
VALUE
8.7

For a bar placed number three on North America's 50 Best Bars in 2025 and holding the Spirited Awards Best U.S. Cocktail Bar trophy, this is the aggressively defensible number on the receipt. The peer set at this level of recognition typically runs meaningfully higher per round without pouring meaningfully better. Nothing on the bill is overpriced.

The Night
REPEAT
8.6

This is the best version of what it's trying to be, which is a serious cocktail bar that refuses to behave like one. Come back on a Sunday afternoon in the two-to-six happy hour with one other person, order a Snaquiri and a Spice Bag and see what else the seasonal daiquiri is doing that week. That's the night. The version to skip is the Saturday-at-ten pilgrimage after the Spirited Awards headlines — the room is the same room but you are drinking it through a wait, and Bar Snack is not a bar that rewards waiting. It's a bar that rewards showing up early.

Snaquiri; Toastie & Cup-O-Soup; Spice Bag; Mama Tried (frozen)

“Best U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2026 Spirited Awards, and priced like a neighborhood joint. Go early or on a weeknight — the door is walk-in only and the wait has grown.”

The room is a wood-paneled counter you should sit at, the music is '70s and correctly loud, and the bill lands around thirty-five per person. The catch is the door: walk-in only, small room, and demand has spiked since the awards. Aim for opening at 2pm or the Sunday-through-Thursday happy hour. Skip the Saturday-at-ten queue.
