The WhatsApp-Only Cocktail Room Above 100 Mahaseth

A small second-floor bar in Bang Rak where nose-to-tail thinking gets applied to fruit, herbs and spirits — and where the only way in is a WhatsApp message.

The Lotus arrives built around the flower itself, and the pour reads as one clean idea rather than a stack of ingredients competing for the top note. That is the house move at Mahaniyom: one ingredient per glass, worked front to back until every part of it is on the tab. The bar sits on the second floor above 100 Mahaseth in Bang Rak, and it took the restaurant's nose-to-tail brief and applied it to fruit, herbs and spirits.

The room opened in 2022 under Ronnaporn 'Neung' Kanivichaporn — Bacardi Legacy World Champion 2019 — and Chennarong 'Janz' Bhumichitr, with Chef Chalee Kader, Chef Randy Noprapa and Nichapa Mungpien among the co-founders. It was No. 57, The World's 50 Best Bars 2024, and holds No. 76 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026. The recognition matters less than the working detail underneath it: the only way to book is a WhatsApp message.

Mahaniyom took the restaurant downstairs at its word and turned nose-to-tail into a cocktail programme that actually holds.

Editorial Deep

The Pour
DRINKS
Very good

Every drink is written around a single ingredient. The Lotus is the reference case — the flower is worked front to back through the glass rather than sitting as a garnish on something else — and the rest of the list follows the same discipline. It is the restaurant's nose-to-tail idea, applied to fruit, herbs and spirits: peel, pulp, stem and seed all show up somewhere before the ingredient is done.

The Room
ATMOSPHERE
Good

Second floor, above 100 Mahaseth, small enough that the bar itself is the centre of the room and every seat has a sightline to it. Capacity is contained — the kind of room where a party of six changes the volume — and on a busy night the seats fill in the first hour of service. Sit at the counter if the bar will seat you there; the drinks are the show and the show is being built two feet away.

The Crowd
VIBE
Good

A mix of Bangkok bar people, chefs from the neighbourhood and travellers who have read about the bar and made the trip to Bang Rak. Weeknights are quieter and easier to read the room; weekends fill fast and the volume climbs with the seat count. The crowd is here for the drinks rather than to be seen with them, which is the right kind of crowd for a bar this size.

The Tab
VALUE
Good

The bar does not publish its prices, so budget by the round rather than by the drink. The cocktail programme is doing more work per glass than most rooms at any tier in the city, and the small-room capacity means the bar is not running the volume that would let it discount. Fair for what the glass is doing; not the round to build a long night around.

The Night
REPEAT
Good

This is a two-round bar, not a five-round one. Come for the opening act of a Bang Rak evening, read the programme through a first and second drink, then move on — the room is too small and the drinks too specific to sit through six of them. The night to come back for is a Tuesday or Wednesday when the seats are easier and the bar has time to talk through the list. Not the room for a large group or a drink-fast crowd; the format punishes both.

The Lotus, then whatever the bar recommends second

“Go for the single-ingredient programme; message on WhatsApp before you leave the hotel.”

A small second-floor bar in Bang Rak doing genuinely distinctive work — one ingredient per glass, worked nose-to-tail the way the restaurant downstairs works an animal. Come for a first and second drink, sit at the counter if they will seat you there, and book on WhatsApp because there is no other way in. Skip if you want a long session, a large table, or a room with prices on the wall.
