The Roma Norte Bar You Book by Instagram DM
A Roma Norte cocktail bar with no reservations website, a small back patio, and cocktails built on nostalgia rather than pyrotechnics.
A mirrored wall catches the warm light behind the bar, a bartender stirs something slow, and the room hums at a volume that still lets two people finish a sentence. This is Tabasco 149, in Roma Norte — warm bulbs, reflective surfaces, a small back patio for the nights when the room fills up before eight.
It opened in 2024 and it has done the harder thing than opening loud: it has become the kind of address people whisper about and then can't quite tell you how to book. There is no Resy button, no Tock link, no website form. Reservations go through Instagram direct message and only through Instagram direct message. That single operational fact is what most first-time visitors don't know until they are standing on Tabasco at seven, watching the room turn people away.
A bar that trades pyrotechnics for restraint and gets away with it because the drinks are actually built.
Editorial Deep
The cocktails lean on childhood memories and nostalgia — the menu language is emotional rather than technical, and the drinks arrive balanced rather than showy. Nothing smokes, nothing arrives in a novelty vessel, nothing is on fire.
Warm bulbs and mirrored surfaces that play as intimate rather than themed. The lighting is low enough to flatter and high enough to read a menu, the music sits under the conversation rather than over it, and the back patio absorbs the overflow on the nights the front room hits capacity.
Roma Norte's evening crowd in its current shape: local, design-adjacent, thirty-ish, dressed like they care but not like they are trying. It is trendy without being pretentious, which is the harder version of trendy to pull off. By seven the room is full and the wait outside starts to build; by ten the patio is the release valve and the bar itself is three-deep. Come at six if you want to hear yourself think, come at nine if you want the room at its intended volume.
Menu prices are not published anywhere the public can read them — the menu sits behind Instagram, and the bar's own channel doesn't post a list. Expect Roma Norte cocktail-bar pricing rather than dive pricing, and expect IVA to be included in the printed figure per Mexican consumer law. A tip is voluntary and cannot be added without your consent; the printed price is what you owe until you decide otherwise. Ask what a round costs before you commit to a second one, and you will know what the evening is going to run.
Bar Mauro was second on North America's 50 Best Bars in 2026, and it still behaves like a neighbourhood room. Come back on a Wednesday at six with one other person, take two bar seats, and drink whatever the bartender points at. Do not come back on a Saturday at nine expecting a quiet conversation, and do not come back at all if you wanted the drink to be the loudest thing in the room — this bar is calibrated for the room to be the loudest thing, and the drink to sit under it.

Whatever the bartender is stirring when you sit down at the counter
“Book by Instagram DM, sit at the bar, order what's being stirred.”
Go for an early drink at the counter on a weekday, or a slow patio round before the room fills. Message @barmauromx a day or two ahead — there is no other booking channel. Skip if you wanted a spirit-forward showpiece bar; this room is built for the low-and-slow end of the evening, not the loud end.
