Bamboo screens along the walls, tiger- and leopard-print fabric on the banquettes, low lighting throughout, and a small stage where the band sets up nightly. The seating is intimate rather than generous — this is not a room to bring a group of eight to. Ask for a banquette angled toward the stage; the bar stools are for solo drinkers and couples who want to watch the pour rather than the singer.
A mix of hotel guests eating into their nightcap, Bangkok expats who've been coming for a decade, and the occasional cocktail pilgrim who's read the rankings. The dress code filters at the door — no sleeveless men, closed shoes after 6:30 PM — and the room reads accordingly: quiet, adult, unhurried. Friday and Saturday until the band finishes at 12:45 AM is the peak. Weeknights and Sundays are calmer and, for many, better.
A caviar platter of Kaviari Kristal at 30g with the standard accompaniments is the food to know about if you're extending the evening. Two rounds of cocktails for two, all-in, is meaningfully less than what the same evening costs at a Mandarin bar in Hong Kong or Tokyo, and the live music is included in the price rather than sitting behind a cover charge — which is the line item that makes the tab defensible.
This is an anchor bar for a specific kind of Bangkok evening — dressed, unhurried, built around live jazz rather than around getting somewhere else after. Come back on a Wednesday around 8:15 PM when the band starts and the room hasn't filled; that's when the Bamboo Bar is at its best. Skip it if you want a session that runs past 2 AM on a Sunday, or if the idea of putting on closed shoes to have a drink reads as friction rather than occasion.
