The A24 Basement That Made Punjabi Cooking a Two-Week Waiting Game

The Sethi siblings brought their Mayfair Punjabi playbook to NoMad, buried it under A24's headquarters, and made you set a calendar reminder to eat there.

The barbecue butter chicken chop arrives on a plate that looks like it was styled for a magazine and tastes like it was cooked by someone who has done it ten thousand times. That is roughly the story of Ambassadors Clubhouse. Every dish looks the part. Most of them back it up.

The restaurant is a JKS project — the Sethi siblings' London group, whose sister venues include Gymkhana. Ambassadors Clubhouse opened in Mayfair in August 2024 and landed in NoMad in February 2026, occupying the ground floor and basement of A24's headquarters at 1245 Broadway. It is a specific kind of arrival: a group that already runs Gymkhana in London, moving into a city that had been under-served at the top of that category.

Editorial Deep

The Plate
FOOD
8.6

Start with the chile cheese pakode and the aloo mattar satpura. The pakode does the work of an opening dish — hot, salty, immediate. The satpura is the more interesting move: a seven-layer samosa that exists only at the New York location, and the reason to lean toward the à la carte side of the menu rather than trying to shortcut the meal. Order both.

The Room
ATMOSPHERE
8.7

Two levels, both dim, both deliberate. The ground floor holds a large bar and a scatter of smaller tables. The basement — the actual clubhouse — is where the larger dining room sits, low-lit and cushioned, with the kind of controlled sound that lets a table of four talk at normal volume at 8:30 on a Friday. It is a special-occasion room without leaning on any of the tired special-occasion tricks.

SERVICE
8.4

Service is polished and modern — knowledgeable on the menu, well-paced across a long meal, warm without performing warmth. The team clearly came in trained to a JKS standard, and it shows in the small handoffs: bread timing, water refills, the way the seafood tower is walked through without a script.

The Bill
VALUE
7.8

The question with a room like this — luxe basement, A24 address, Mayfair pedigree — is whether you are paying for the cooking or the ZIP code. On balance, the cooking earns most of it. The grill program, the samosa, the dal, the breads: those are lines you can point to and defend without hedging.

The Return
REPEAT
8.0

Yes, on a specific occasion, with a plan. This is not a restaurant you drop into. It is one you build an evening around — a birthday, a client dinner, the night a friend flies in and wants to eat somewhere that feels like a decision.

What to eat

Don't miss.

Chile cheese pakode, aloo mattar satpura (NY-exclusive seven-layer samosa), barbecue butter chicken chop, black lentil dal, carom-seeded naan

“A serious Punjabi kitchen worth a two-week reservation runway — for the right occasion, not for a Tuesday.”

Book it for a birthday, a client dinner, or the night a friend flies in. For a weeknight Indian meal without the Resy alert, Semma, Dhamaka, or Adda in Queens are the more honest answer.
